世界一のアクア指導者組織に成長した全米アクアエクササイズ協会(AEA)。これまでの歩みをまとめ小冊子を作ることになました。加盟各国のAEAの歩み、現状と今後の展望、などをレポートすることになりました。以下、日本から提出する文章です。

1995年、ルース・ソーバ＆ビッキー・チョゼック両女史から引き継いだ二人。アンジー・プロクター＆ジュリー・シー両女史。あれから22年間。粘り強い努力と強い使命感で幾度かの困難な時期を乗り越え、AEAムーブメントを世界中に広めてきた二人。ありがとう。

1970年代、米国水泳コーチ協会(ASCA)の年次総会へ何度か参加。当時から米国人のプロ意識の高さ、優れた組織力、リーダーシップの上手さを実感していた。だから、1980年代半ば、ルース・ソーバ(Ruth Sova)が水中運動協会(AEA)を発足した時から、私は強い関心を以て注目していた。
1990年、幸運にもRuthを日本へ招聘する機会があった。その準備の為、何度か訪米。その度にAEAの教育システムを体験した。そして、ぜひ、日本でも同じ教育システムを実施したいと強く思うようになった。念願が叶い、1991年、日本でAEAがスタートできた。以来、年3回(2月/6月/11月）、AEA認定資格を得る目的で養成コースを定期的に実施している。この23年間で日本人AEA認定者は延べ1090名（2014年現在）に達している。
1991年以降、年6回、AEA認定者を対象にした継続教育講習会(アクアフォーラム21)を開催。自薦他薦で選ばれたヒトが次々に講師になり、相互啓発に大きな役割を果たしている。そして、特に評価の高いヒトは2年毎に開催するAEA国内総会（ナショナルコンファレンス）の講師になる。更にそのトップ数名が国際アクアフィットネス総会（IAFC）プレゼンターになっている。これまでにIAFCプレゼンターを経験した日本人AEA認定者は延べ28名(2014年現在)。彼らが日本のアクア界のトップリーダーとして活躍している。
このように底辺から頂点へと優秀なトップリーダーが次々に成長する教育システムはAEAの大きな特徴だ。そして、日本では、時々、米国に限らず、ヨーロッパからも、優れたAEAトップリーダーを日本へ招聘。質の高い再教育講習会(ステップアップ)を実施している。これもAEAが国際的に影響力のある唯一の団体であることに大きく関係している。
さて、1990年代半ば、AEAのトップリーダーの世代交代があった。Ruth ＆Vikky の時代から Julie & Angie の時代へ
とシフト。AEAの年次総会であるIAFCの内容も大きく変化した。が、発足以来のAEAの精神は引き継がれ、一層、力強くなり、大きく成長している。だから、これからも日本はAEA加盟国として、強い誇りと自信を持ち、優秀なトップリーダーを一人でも多く輩出させたいと強く願っている。

In the 1970s, I participated multiple times in the annual conference of the American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA). From this time, I felt Americans’ high level of professional awareness, outstanding organizational abilities, and strong leadership skills. Therefore, I look a strong interest when Ruth Sova launched the Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) in the mid-1980s.
In the 1990s, I had the good fortune of being able to invite Ruth to Japan. In preparation, I visited the United States multiple times. There, I was able to experience the AEA educational system, and came to strongly desire to implement the same one in Japan. In 1991, my wishes came true and the Japanese AEA was launched. Since then, an AEA certification-training course has been carried out periodically (three times yearly in February, June, and November). In the 23 years since it began, a total of 1090 Japanese people have become AEA-certified.
Since 1991, continuing education training sessions have been held six times a year. People can become instructors by applying on their own or being recommended by others. They are emerging one after another, playing a significant role in mutual education. Those with especially good reputations work as instructors at the biannual AEA domestic conference, and exceptionally talented people among them also present at the International Aquatic Fitness Conference (IAFC). 28 AEA-certified Japanese instructors have become presenters, and are active as top leaders in Japan’s world of aquatic exercises.
This is one of AEA’s features: an educational system that continually raises outstanding top leaders. Prominent AEA top leaders from both the United States and Europe are occasionally invited to Japan to carry out high-quality refresher training sessions. This considerably contributes to AEA’s status as the sole organization with international influence.
In the mid-1990s, there was a generational transition in leadership at the AEA: the organization went from the era of Rush and Vicky to that of Julie and Angie. The content of the IAFC, AEA’s annual conference, also changed considerably. However, the spirit of the organization that has existed since its founding lives on, has become even stronger, and is growing considerably. It is my hope that with strong pride and confidence Japan continues to produce many outstanding top leaders as an AEA member nation.
